Blenis Racing sweeps DACOSA season opener

The Blenis Racing drivers dominated the DACOSA Speedway WKA Weekly Racing Series opener. First up was Kingston Blenis in the #02 Junior Gold class. Kingston Started the heat race in 6th position on the 3rd row outside. When the green flag flew he dove to the inside and was in 3rd position by the time the karts came out of turn 2. At that point he settled in behind the #2 of Joey Lunati and the #9 of Cody Caldwell. After a few laps when the #2 and #9 were fighting for position Kingston made the power move of the day and passed both Karts on the outside in turns 3 & 4. From that point on it was clear sailing in clean air. Kingston controlled the main feature as the class of the field. He stretched his lead to as much as a full straight before cautions caught the field back up to him. However, Kingston would pull away to win with a 1.233 second margin over #9 Cody Caldwell and a 13.694 second fast lap of the day at 56.531 MPH.

Austin Blenis started his first WKA WRS race in the Junior Sportsman 2 Aqua class. Austin dominated the Junior Sportsman 1 Purple class in 2004 bringing home the track championship and winning an amazing 7 races. Austin started the heat race in 4th place on the 2nd row outside. Austin commented in the pits before the heat race that after watching his brother’s power move he knew that fresh tires would work on the outside. When the green flag dropped Austin went high and pushed past the 3rd place kart to take the position. Austin stayed right on the rear bumper of the #9 Jennifer Graham throughout the majority of the race and knew with the laps winding down that he had to make his move. Jennifer did a great job of protecting the inside so Austin was force to go high and try her on the outside. The karts were side by side through turns 3 & 4 all the way down the front straight but Austin was able to carry the momentum through turns 1 & 2 and pulled ahead down the back stretch. with only 3 laps to go Austin was trying to find a way around the #8 of John Graham when he received some bump drafting help from his friend and Back Yard Burgers team mate #17 Chaney Young. Chaney pushed Austin to the high side coming out of turn 2 and gave him the momentum to pass for the final lead change. As with his brother, once the green flag flew in the main feature he checked out on the competition and lapped the field for his first win of the 2005 season.
